Nancy Reed, LICSW

I have been privileged to work at Tapestry since 1983. I specialize in bereavement, adult children of alcoholics (ACOA), recovery from addiction, parenting support, and issues of lesbian life. In addition, I work regularly with college students and young adults. My professional training includes family systems work, psychodrama, grief-work, and mindfulness practice. I've run Grief Groups for lesbians coping with the loss of a partner, family member or friend. Since 2000 my work has focused on integrating my interest in meditation with psychotherapy, particularly the concepts and practices of Herbert Benson's Relaxation Response, and mindfulness.

I am also a volunteer group facilitator at The Children's Room which offers caring support for grieving children, teens and families.

My practice includes work with people facing major life transitions including separation or divorce, the loss of a loved one, and managing a chronic illness. I encourage clients to create opportunities for themselves that address what Kubler-Ross described as the four quadrants-the physical, intellectual, emotional and spiritual. I work with clients to identify their needs and to find support systems beyond therapy. I believe that clients are best served in facing the greatest challenges with a therapist who offers compassion, perspective, humor and humility.
